Evolution of the Virtue Group

1982

Group’s origins date back to 1982 and the opening of San Remo Nursing Home in Bray, Co Wicklow.

2013

The Fern Dean facility was conceived and developed as a premium 92-bed facility in a coveted location in South Dublin. This home opened in 2013 and was later extended in two phases to 140 beds.

2014

Willis Care Group established in 2014.

2014

2017

Virtue established in 2017 as a broader integrated long term care platform.

2017

2018

In 2018, construction commenced on 144-bed Four Ferns facility, again developed in a prime location in Foxrock, South Dublin. The home opened in November 2019. A planned 35-bed extension to this home comprising the development of a dementia specific unit is due to commence in March 2023.

2019

In 2019, the Group looked at reorganising its capital structures in order to pursue a growth agenda. With this in mind, the Group completed its first Sale & Leaseback transactions on the Fern Dean and Four Ferns with Paris-based Euryale in June 2019, allowing the Group to free up growth capital.

The Virtue Group adopted an asset light strategy, focusing on its core competencies as an operator and entering into long term leases of the facilities it operates from.

In February 2020, the Group completed an acquisition of the Moorehall Living Group with the 121-bed Moorehall Lodge Drogheda in Co Meath and the 81-bed Moorehall Lodge Ardee in Co Louth. This transaction was supported by Euryale from a Real Estate perspective.

May 2020

In May a service that envisages primary care, home care and day service, Virtue Integrated Care is launched as a community-based service that aims to help keep older people well and living at home within their communities for as long as possible.

October 2020

In October 2020, the Emera Group acquired a 70% stake in the Virtue Group.  This dynamic has proved effective with good fit in executing a growth led strategy at the front end of qualitative positioning.

February 2021

Bridhaven Nursing Home in Mallow, Co Cork was acquired in February 2021. This transaction was supported by Aedifica from a Real Estate perspective.

June 2021

The SignaCare homes located in Waterford, Killerig, Bunclody and New Ross  were acquired in June 2021. This transaction was supported by Aedifica from a Real Estate perspective.

July 2021

Altadore Nursing Home in South Dublin was acquired in July 2021. This transaction was supported by Aedifica from a Real Estate perspective and a 5-bed extension is due to be completed in April 2023.

Be Independent Home Care, Virtue’s first significant entry into the Home Care space, was acquired in October 2021.

December 2021

Wygram Nursing Home in Wexford was acquired in December 2021. A six-bed extension to this home is due to commence in March 2023.

Craddock House in Naas, Co Kildare was acquired in May 2022.

Ann’s Home Care was acquired by Virtue in May 2022, with an upfront acquisition of a 70% shareholding and an option to acquire the remaining 30% which will be exercised in March 2023.

A 44-bed extension to Moorehall Lodge Ardee was opened in January 2023.
